About us

Practical Magic is an innovative and exciting theatre company which aims to bring quality theatre to Lanarkshire and beyond. The company has been running successfully for over 10 years and is still moving forward under the guidance of:­

Shirley Ann Bayley (Producer/Director/Choreographer/Writer)

Shirley Ann trained at the Clark Theatre School under the direction of Sheridan Nicol and founder Bette Clark. She is a former North Lanarkshire "Dancer of the Year" and has choreographed for various Companies throughout Scotland. She has since established The Uddingston Dance and Theatre School and along with Alan Bayley founded Practical Magic Theatre Company. Shirley Ann continues to produce for both companies.

Alan Bayley (Producer/Director/Writer)

Alan has worked extensively with a number of Scottish Theatre Companies. Recent directing credits include 'Macbeth', 'Shirley Valentine' 'Perfect Days', 'Match Play' and 'Sex Lies & an 80's Tribute Band' which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2005.

At 2005's Fringe the company also sold out with the hit show 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' and played to full houses again in 2006 with their highly acclaimed production of Tony Roper's 'The Steamie'.

Practical Magic continues to achieve great success both at local theatre venues and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it brings its own brand of highly entertaining and original theatre to an international audience.
